Hello to all of you saxophonists and friends of our great, global musical community; This is George Young here, informing you all of my annual MASTER CLASS at Hidden Valley Music Seminars, located in beautiful Carmel Valley, California. The classes will be taking place starting on Sunday evening, June 13th, 2010 with all of my students checking in for their orientation at that time.
Then, I will be performing a recital on the following Monday evening of June 14th, which will consist of the first half of my performance being classical saxophone literature, then ... the second half, being my jazz demonstration of the saxophones.
Basically, the recital is to demonstrate the saxophone and it's many ways it can be played.
Earlier that day, on Monday morning, I will be checking all of the students' saxophones with my personal technician,
Mr. Gary Stotz.
After testing and adjusting all of the instruments in the morning,
(hoping that there won't be any need for adjustments), I will then have all of the students rehearse their various pieces that they will be performing for me to critique, starting on Tuesday morning.
The pieces that the students choose can be classical, jazz, pop or even rock. During the remainder of the week long study, I will have the students perform saxophone duets, trios, quartets, sax section workshops and if possible, (if there are enough students), I will also include literature that involves a saxophone choir.
I might also mention that the Yamaha Corporation was so generous last year, to let us use seven of their choice saxophones, which were two sopranos, two altos, two tenors and a baritone.
My classes will continue thru Friday, the 18th of June as I will be pinpointing the various problems that might be occurring for the individual students, make them aware of them, (if they're not already aware of them), and helping them raise their individual "bars", thus enabling them, the students, to sound better and enable them to play their instruments with a much better approach than they did before attending my classes.
What I have been managing to do is ... when they arrive, they bring with them what they know, thus far ... but by the time that Friday rolls around, the improvement is usually very noticeable and very rewarding for them starting with an improved "SOUND" as well as "BETTER TECHNICAL FACILITY" along with, more importantly, "A MUCH BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF, HOW TO PLAY MUSIC". Then, I will have them perform, collectively on that final day, Friday the 18th, with or without my rhythm section, depending on the music that I will be choosing for them to perform at the time.
We do manage to have a lot of fun during the week long process too!
